Different Ways to Survive in College

Are you anxious about what will happen in college? Do not worry because that is just normal among freshmen. You probably cannot get the college thought out of your mind not until you experience it. College life is a lot different than what you did in high school.

What are the common things happened when you enter college?

 1. You will experience a culture shock, not, unless you are still in the same school you enrolled in secondary. This is true, because every school has its own culture. As you transfer into another educational level you are forced to adjust to the norms within the new environment.

2. You tend to have a performance shock. This means that you can see yourself performing below average in your college classes. If you had a good performance in high school, being an honor student, for instance, does not mean that you will really have a good performance in college. A lot of students would wonder why these things happen. Well, it is just part of growing up. What matters most is how you adjust to the new setting. If you are comfortable with it, then probably you will do well in class.

As we go along this topic we will be discussing different ways to survive in college. The top reason why students fail in college will also be discussed briefly.

Things you need to do to survive college.

1. You needed to attend classes. This is the most important part of your college life. You are in school to study not to do unnecessary things.

2. You needed to be an organized student. As what we mentioned earlier college is different as the high school. During your college life, you should expect to have a wide range of schedules. You need to put everything in a right track.

3. Know your professors. This is for you to make sure that you are comfortable with them. There are some teachers that had an intimidating look but with good attitude when you are close to them. Make sure to observe office hours when dealing with your superiors. As part of this step you also need to know your adviser. This is very important because they are the one who will help you soon if you encounter some problems. In school, you need to follow the proper path of communication. Always remember that the best person you can approach in case of some problem is your adviser.

4. Have a personal balance. This is because college life has plenty of activities like social and academic. You may encounter friends that may pull you or attract you out from your classes. Learn to avoid this situation.

5. Get connected with your classmates. This will help improve your social aspect in life. The more friends you get the more comfortable you will be. Remember that friends can also be your emotional healer. They may serve as your supporters.

6. Look for a place for you to study in school. Even though studying in school is not that ideal, but you need to review your lessons before you get the quiz. Look for a comfortable place in your campus. Make sure that it is a place conducive for learning. A cool, lighted, and silent area is appropriate. Part of being a college student is to have good grades. You need to strive harder to reach the top. Aiming the highest possible goal is better than aiming a passing mark. Always remember that at the time you will apply for a job your college grades will matter a lot. Your performance in the tertiary level is the common determinant of what rank you will gain in your future job.

7. Spare a personal time. College life may differ from one student to another. Some would have a stressful time in school. You need a certain time for you to rest. Life is made not to be pressured but to be enjoyed. Put in mind that personal time is part of your time management. Don’t spend too much of it to the point that you will miss some task in school. As a student we always have two paths. We pass and we fail. When we fail, we should never underestimate ourselves. Chances will greatly depend on our own. The top reason why students fail is that they tend to have too much fun to the point that they don’t value their studies anymore.
